The 21st Century Learner
- When children use any of the eight Thinking Maps they are using prior knowledge that they have; they are doing something with their knowledge. For a 21st century learner knowledge is seen as a verb not a noun.
- Students can direct their own learning as they are the ones who pick out an appropriate map to display their knowledge and information.
- Students are actively engaged in their learning when they draw Thinking Maps.
- Students see a purpose for displaying their knowledge as they know each thought process and the map associated with it.
- Thinking Maps encourage a collaborative learning approach.
- Thinking Maps can be used in any 'real life' context outside of the classroom.
- Thinking Maps promote higher order thinking processes.
